NASCAR Cup Series driver Chris Buescher agreed to a multiyear contract extension with RFK Racing to remain the driver of their No. 17 Ford.
CONCORD, N.C. — NASCAR Cup Series driver Chris Buescher agreed to a multiyear contract extension with RFK Racing to remain the driver of their No. 17 Ford.
The Jack Roush, Fenway Sports Group and Brad Keselowski-owned team announced the deal Tuesday. It extends a relationship that began in 2009 when Buescher went from working in the race shop and helping with pit practice to wheeling their cars.
“I’ve grown up with this organization and I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve built together over the last several years. The direction we’re heading, the people we have in place, and the commitment throughout the company make me excited about the future,” Buescher said. "I’m grateful to Mr. Jack, Brad, Fenway Sports Group and everyone at RFK Racing for their belief in me. I’m looking forward to continuing to chase wins and championships together.”
Buescher has five Cup wins with RFK. He finished as high as seventh in the points standings and is now on track this season to match that mark, first set in 2023.
Buescher has been in the NASCAR Cup Series since 2016 when Roush loaned him to Front Row Motorsports. He raced for JTG-Daugherty Racing, on loan from 2017-2019, before joining RFK proper on a trade with Ricky Stenhouse Jr. in 2020.
On his way to the top, Buescher won the 2012 ARCA championship and the 2015 NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series championship for Roush.
"Chris has been part of this organization for most of his professional career and there is a tremendous amount of pride in seeing what he has become,” Roush said. “He is an exceptional driver but just as importantly, he is the kind of person who makes our organization stronger. His work ethic, intelligence and commitment to our success have earned the respect of everyone at RFK Racing and we're proud that his story with us will continue."
Buescher's signing means a key driver in the silly season chatter is out of the equation. Industry insiders indicated teams from every manufacturer eyed Buescher up before he signed his extension.
“Chris is everything you want in a race car driver and teammate,” Keselowski said. “His talent behind the wheel speaks for itself but what really separates him is his professionalism, preparation and commitment to making everyone around him better. He’s been instrumental in the progress we’ve made as an organization and we’re excited to continue building toward our goals together.”
Buescher has two top-five finishes and eight top-10 finishes through 16 races this season, accruing an average finish of 13.2. He finished inside the top-10 at Michigan and Pocono most recently. He has also led 68 laps, which is more than all of last year.
