Arguably the biggest asphalt short track race of the year, featuring NASCAR drivers and prospects squaring off against the top short track talent in the U.S., it has been postponed to Monday.
PENSACOLA, Fla. -- The Snowball Derby 300-lap late model race has been postponed to Monday due to inclement weather at Five Flags Speedway.
The premier super late model race will go green Monday at around 2 p.m. ET in Pensacola, Florida and on FloRacing. All of the support division races will go green Tuesday, starting at 5 p.m. ET
The race was set to go green Sunday at 2 p.m. ET but a rain delay meant engines didn't fire until four hours later. Then, the drivers did a couple of pace laps and came back to pit road due to fog.
Now on to Monday, the Snowball Derby is hoping to not go five for five. For four consecutive days, rain hampered on-track activities and condensed qualifying down to qualifying and the last-chance qualifier back-to-back at a breakneck speed Saturday night before the Snowflake 125 pro late model race that ended in the early Sunday morning hours.
Keelan Harvick, the 13-year-old son of NASCAR Cup Series champion Kevin Harvick, stayed up far beyond his bedtime to become the youngest winner of the race.
The attention is turned toward the Snowball Derby where 30 drivers qualified for the race on time but four drivers had to get in through the last-chance qualifier, two had to rely on provisionals and eight didn't qualify at all.
Among the four last-chance qualifiers was Kyle Busch. The two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion won the LCQ and will start 31st.
Fellow NASCAR Cup Series drivers Erik Jones and Noah Gragson weren't as fortunate as they were among the eight who missed the field.
