Ty Gibbs, Kyle Larson and Ryan Blaney all took turns topping Saturday's charts in the lead-up to Sunday's Toyota/Save Mart 350 NASCAR Cup Series race at Sonoma Raceway.
SONOMA, Cali. -- Ty Gibbs, Kyle Larson and Ryan Blaney all took turns topping Saturday's charts in the lead-up to Sunday's Toyota/Save Mart 350 NASCAR Cup Series race at Sonoma Raceway.
Gibbs took the pole with a lap of 74.829 seconds. He beat Carson Hocevar by a sliver, as Hocevar ran a lap in 74.854 seconds.
Larson will start third. He was second fastest overall (75.924) and fastest on the 10-lap average (93.577 mph average).
Blaney was fastest in practice (75.808). However, he will start 16th.
One name missing in the mix is Shane van Gisbergen. He was fifth-fastest in practice and didn't make a 10-lap run to get his name on the 10-lap average chart. He also spun in qualifying but will still start sixth after getting a lap in before the spin.
SVG is never to be counted out. After winning Saturday's NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series race, SVG now has 13 NASCAR road course wins -- including seven in the Cup Series. Six of those wins have come in roughly the last year or so. He's also looking for redemption after a crash took him out of a possible win at Naval Base Coronado near San Diego.
Between Larson and SVG is Michael McDowell, who will start fourth. His finishes on the lefts and rights are fifth at Circuit of the Americas in March, second at Watkins Glen in May and 10th last Sunday at Naval Base Coronado.
In eighth, AJ Allmendinger will make his 500th career start in the NASCAR Cup Series. He was ninth-fastest in practice (76.125).
TOP-10 STARTERS: Ty Gibbs, Carson Hocevar, Kyle Larson, Michael McDowell, Ross Chastain, Shane van Gisbergen, Chase Briscoe, AJ Allmendinger, Denny Hamlin, Joey Logano.
Others to watch in the top-10 include Chase Briscoe, who was second to Kyle Larson on the 10-lap average (93.541 mph) and eighth-fastest overall (76.119).
Outside of the top-10, most notably, is Tyler Reddick. He will start 11th after running third-fastest in practice (75.938) and third-fastest on the 10-lap average (93.478 mph).
Reddick's points lead is down to eight over Denny Hamlin after he blew a tire in the closing laps in Coronado. Before that happened, he was set to finish inside the top-two and to extend his points lead.
Teammate Bubba Wallace also looked fast in practice, clocking in fourth-fastest overall (76.010) and eighth on the 10-lap average (93.283 mph). However, a crash in practice is going to present setbacks for him and his No. 23 team that finished second in Coronado.
Connor Zilisch will start 17th. Brad Keselowski will start 35th.
