The first preseason game for the Philadelphia 76ers was fun to watch. Now, there's interest in what they need to do to build off of their first win.

The Philadelphia 76ers are gearing up for their second preseason game, and while it may not consist of what we may see on opening night, it’s still some things to look out for.

What will Nick Nurse do at center?

After Ariel Hukporti’s Achilles injury, head coach Nick Nurse will have to find a replacement. Whether that is a player already on the team or someone they sign off the street to, it needs to be addressed. Adem Bona is still out with a foot injury. While he has started individual drills, he won’t be available Thursday night. Jabari Walker played well, recording a double-double, but his size comes into question. So maybe we’ll get some answers in their matchup against the Brooklyn Nets.

Who from the starters will suit up?

The last game saw Jaylen Brown and VJ Edgecombe as the only starters to play, and they performed admirably. Now there’s a chance we could see the same combination of players, or they may get some rest tonight and another pair starts instead. Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid could be next in line to get some minutes and knock off a bit of that offseason rust. It would be nice to see Embiid in action to see just how in shape he truly is.

Will Labaron Philon build off his first game?

Philon Jr played 25 minutes, going 2-9 from the field, scoring six points with two rebounds and two assists. While he played a very lacklustre game, there were some encouraging signs, but there was more expected of him. His ballhandling is definitely there, but there has to be more efficient shooting and impactful decision-making if he’s to get some minutes in a real game.

Will anyone from the bench standout?

It’s well known that the 76ers brought in Dean Wade, Anfernee Simons, and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope to be adequate depth off the bench. But who else will show that they can be counted on?  Caleb Love was very impressive, scoring 15 points and shooting 50 percent from the field. Three other players finished with 11 points and contributed to the 76ers win. So, now it’s time to see who can remain consistent and earn their keep.

A preseason game matters more than many think. While it’s a way to get ready for the season, it helps to know who can be useful in the right situation. The 76ers have a stacked roster, and it’s going to be important to know what you have.

Hopefully the second preseason game helps with the answers fans and coaches are looking for.
