Building a team takes time and involves calculating risks. In the past, the team faltered at the worst time, but now, they can hold their head up knowing this team could change all of that.
With all the talk about the players and the offseason that this team has had, after seeing the scrimmage, the front office of the Philadelphia 76ers has to be smiling from ear to ear.
Let’s not forget that this team has had a string of bad luck in the past and couldn't make it past the second round no matter who they had on the floor. From James Harden and Doc Rivers to Paul George and former GM Daryl Morey, this team couldn’t find the right combination to make the wheels go on this team. Now, it’s looking like their patience and persistence are finally paying off. The additions of Jaylen Brown and LeBron James are the big names, but it’s the little moves like adding Dean Wade, Anfernee Simons, and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope that make a team.
Then if you look at the draft, it’s just another piece to the puzzle. Coaches and players have been very high on Labaron Philon, and it’s easy to see why. It’s just something about the kid that they love.
Since the start of Media Day, everyone has been sparked with excitement at the possibilities that this team could have. The players shared in that excitement when training camp started and all the reports came out about the intensity that was happening in practice and how players were stepping up as leaders for the team. It’s little things like this that can have a positive influence around the building.
Now, this all goes to the wayside if what you see in practice doesn’t translate to the court. It may be a little too early for pats on the back, but there is quite a bit of optimism after what they witnessed during the scrimmage. A scrimmage is just light work and realistically a show for the fans. But there's no reason not to love what you’ve seen, even if it’s a sample size.
James and Brown both showed why they were brought here with a spectacular showing. Brown was draining threes left and right while James was moving around like a spring chicken, making his fair share of shots, including one that was near the logo. Philon was outstanding on the offensive side while Maxey continued to show how his offensive game is still improving.
The team has proven the office right in the fact that they know everything they did from top to bottom has been nothing but positive. Now, when the season gets started, there is some real hope for this team, and it’s all you can ask for.
