76ers Center Adem Bona Showcases Why He Deserves More Respect

It looks like one Philadelphia 76ers center has heard all the noise about the lack of depth and whatnot.

Adem Bona released a workout video showing that he’s been putting in work during the offseason just like his teammates.  That’s all fine and dandy, but the 76ers are going to need more from him than just a simple workout video.  It’s one thing to show yourself getting up some shots; it’s another thing to put all that hard work into action in real game minutes.

Well, he’ll have plenty of opportunities to show his progression when the season starts. Better yet, he can show it the moment he shows up for training camp. There’s a reason the 76ers signed Tacko Fall to an exhibit 10 contract. It wasn’t just to have a body in camp; it’s to bring in competition to prove who deserves to truly be the backup to Joel Embiid.

What was even more interesting about the video is it doesn’t show much post-work. So it makes you wonder, what does he expect to do?

Bona is 6 feet 10 inches and weighs about 235. At his size, it’s expected that he would be hanging around the rim more than out near the three-point line. This could be a plus to Bona’s game. If he has added to his offensive arsenal, it gives the team a reason to play him.

It’s no sure thing that Embiid will make it through the season, so it's imperative to have someone behind him. Bona averaged nearly five points a game and a little over four rebounds a game.

That’s obviously nothing compared to starter numbers, but this could be his change to change that. The center position is going to be in bad shape if Embiid misses serious extended time.

A workout video can only show you so much. Things are different when it’s a real opponent hounding you through the entirety of the game.

Everybody looks like the next best thing until the real competition steps in. Bona is going to have to stand tall and be a force on the defensive side while being in a position that helps the team offensively.

LeBron James may be able to help for a little while, but at some point, it's going to fall on Bona to show what he learned in the offseason. If he can do that, he may not be a player Philadelphia is looking to love in exchange for a better role player.
