Allen Iverson more than approves of his former team signing LeBron James.
The city of Philadelphia is still overwhelmed with joy over the recent signing of LeBron James. Who could blame them? James brings pandemonium everywhere he goes.
All the Philadelphia 76ers fans are getting their tickets early in anticipation for what they are going to witness at the Xfinity Mobile Arena.
One Hall of Famer and 76ers legend, Allen Iverson, is ecstatic for not only the team but for the Philly faithful as well.
“I’m just happy for the city of Philadelphia, man.” Iverson said on The Stephen A. Smith Show. “The type of player he is, the type of person he is, he brings a lot; he really is the answer.”
To get that type of praise from someone who many consider to be an all-time great means more than many think. A player of Iverson’s caliber giving the approval on the move says something about the importance it has on the city. Iverson was the catalyst for the 76ers' run to the NBA Finals in 2001. The 11-time All-Star and four-time scoring champion didn’t have the same kind of help as James. This could also lead to a shadow cast over the NBA franchise.
It creates pressure for the team to either win a championship or face a level of scrutiny they haven’t seen since the Ben Simmons blunder. Various well-known analysts and players have given their opinion. Some applauded the move by James, like former NBA player Patrick Beverley. While others feel like the move was a questionable gamble. No matter how you slice it, it has people excited for the start of the season.
For all the criticism for the 76ers, it’s refreshing to see some people are elated with the decision. James is going to have his hands full when there is a season filled with criticism waiting for him. We all talk about what this does for James, but we haven’t discussed what this means for the city.
It gives them hope for the season. Before the addition many were excited about the Brown trade. With James in the mix, it’s a feeling of euphoria. Over the last few years there was disappointment in how the team would notoriously underperform and have an early exit in the playoffs. Things seem to be different this time around.
Could this be the year they finally avenge their 2019 meltdown? Or will the bar be too high and lead to another year of pain and suffering?
