The Philadelphia 76ers had a scrimmage that showed some flashy highlights. But, there's some important things that happened that should keep everyone in high spirits.

The Philadelphia 76ers hosted their first scrimmage, and this team looks energized and ready to face some real competition.

Now, to set the record straight, this was just an exhibition game between the starters and the bench. So, to those who watched and are already having negative things to say, relax; it was all in good fun. One good thing to see out there was just how fluid the starting unit looked. Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown, VJ Edgecombe, and LeBron James all look to have  built some of that chemistry  that’s been talked about throughout the offseason. Those workout videos weren’t just for show; they truly made a difference.

The starting unit wanted to prove to its fans what kind of team they have on their hands. It was like watching the Globetrotters play at your local arena the way the team was flying around out there. At one point during the scrimmage, James and Edgecombe were on a fast break, and it led to a behind-the-back pass to Edgecombe in the corner for a three. Edgecombe missed the attempt, but the showman play style could be a glimpse of what this team could do on the floor in a real game. Hopefully, it's during a blowout and not in a game that is close.

On another play, it was a two-on-one fast break with James and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and it ended with a lob dunk from KCP to James. Now, KCP is a bench player doing this, but their past history warms the heart of many to see them share the floor together. The bench had its share of splash plays, and it’s looking like they can be a huge help to the team. One player that made your eyes pop out was Labaron Philon.

In an iso situation, Philon went right at his defender and did a couple moves before hitting a turnaround jumper with a hand in his face. That’s the kind of play head coach Nick Nurse needs to see to give him an idea of giving you valuable minutes.

Now throughout all of this, there weren't many defensive plays that stood out, but remember, this is just a scrimmage; it’s not much to be upset about. The important thing is that offensively there is plenty to dissect. There’s no doubt that this team will be top five in offense, and another thing, James may do more than just take a backseat. The jumpshot looks smooth, and his energy is still there.

This scrimmage gave the team a good cardio run, and it may be just the preview the fans needed to see. This season is so close, and it’s going to be loads of anticipation to see this star-studded 76ers’ team.
