76ers' Tyrese Maxey Fully Intends To Keep VJ Edgecombe Involved Despite Star-Studded Lineup

The Philadelphia 76ers roster is filled from top to bottom with stars. Sometimes the young guys get lost in the shuffle. One player that many speculate to have a down season is second-year guard VJ Edgecombe. 

It stands within reason to believe it when he’s sharing the floor with superstars like forwards LeBron James and Jaylen Brown. Not only that but there’s also the little notion of feeding their MVP center Joel Embiid. 

With all that to handle along with still learning the ins and outs of the NBA, Edgecombe will have a hard time keeping his head above water. It seems like the team has better plans for him. 

According to All-NBA guard Tyrese Maxey, the team has every intention of getting Edgecombe involved within the offense. Maxey even detailed how he had to deal with the same concerns when Harden joined the team in his second year. 

“As soon as James [Harden] got there, he pulled me to the side and said, 'Don't think this changes anything for you.'" Maxey said, "He was feeding me the ball and making me be aggressive, and that’s what we’re going to do for VJ." 

It’s refreshing to hear that Edgecombe's teammates believe in his abilities and feel he can be a key contributor to the team. It’s players like this that allow you to be true to yourself as a basketball player. It can also instill confidence in a young player and allow him free reign on the court. Now, he’ll still have to play within the offense, but at least they know he won’t hesitate when it comes to shooting the basketball. 

Maxey even said he would look at the stat sheet and realize how little Edgecombe shot the ball and felt if they were going to be successful, he had to get more aggressive if the team was going to win games. The one player many people were unsure of is Edgecombe. If the team relies on him to make a few baskets, that's going to make a powerful offense, even more volatile. Their opponents truly won’t know who to guard because everyone is a lethal threat. 

As of now, Edgecombe is a slashing guard, but if he can get his three-point shot going, this team is going to be a major problem for any team they face. 

76ers fans are going to be in for a real treat if another high draft pick can become a key cornerstone of this franchise and help lead the team to a championship.
