Russell Westbrook has finally called it a career. LeBron James endorses his old friend and wishes him well.

While everyone is getting ready for the NBA season, one player is closing the book on an illustrious career.

Mr. Triple-Double Russell Westbrook has officially called it quits after an 18-year career.

Philadelphia 76ers star forward LeBron James took to Instagram to congratulate Westbrook on his retirement and made it clear he feels Westbrook's next step is a place in the Naismith NBA Hall of Fame.

Westbrook and James were teammates during their time together in Los Angeles for the Lakers. While they didn’t manage to win a championship together, there was always a level of respect between the two. Since Westbrook has decided to close this chapter of his life, what could have been had Westbrook managed to find a way to the 76ers?

Many would say that it would be the same as their time as in Los Angeles. Not so fast; these two teams are completely different. In LA it was widely based on James, Westbrook, and Anthony Davis to get the job done. On this roster Westbrook wouldn’t have to be a starter and would instead be with the second unit and provide loads of energy and intensity. Everyone knows what they’re getting with Westbrook on the team.

The shooting ability leaves much to be desired, but he can still get to the basket whenever he wants. He may not have the same explosiveness, but he can still get around defenders with ease. Not only that, but we all know he’s going to fill that stat sheet, getting everyone involved while accumulating rebounds.

The best way for him to make an impact on the team is racking up the assists. He could be that facilitator that would fit with either unit.  Not only that, but he could push the pace in transition, and that would be a missing link for this team when James is on the bench. If Westbrook were to be a part of the starting lineup, he may be the player that helps get everyone involved and put the team at ease when it comes to rushing their shots.

His only Achilles heel would be his decision-making when it comes to shot selection. Westbrook, as many know, was never the greatest shooter. But in his last few years he has been seen taking egregious shots that just seemed extremely questionable. There’s a reason why no team made a run at him during free agency.

Despite his faults, Westbrook will go down as one of the best point guards to ever grace this game. The only player to average a triple-double four different times. A feat that may never be broken, especially at the point guard position.  There will never be another Westbrook, if only he could have made his way to Philadelphia for one last chance.
