The Philadelphia 76ers' hopes of landing LeBron James were boosted when he continued reaching out.

The Philadelphia 76ers ultimately won the LeBron James free agency sweepstakes.

On late Friday morning, ESPN's Shams Charania announced James is signing a two-year, $8 million deal with the Sixers that includes a player option. He chose them over teams including the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, Golden State Warriors, and Minnesota Timberwolves because he believes Philadelphia gives him the best chance at championship No. 5.

It appears even the 76ers were a bit surprised when James landed on them, as ESPN's Brian Windhorst reported the organization was not fond of their positioning in the race for the 22-time All-Star.

"In the last few days LeBron kept having conversations with some of Philly's players... I don't think Philly really loved their positioning in the running a few days ago," Windhorst said on First Take. "But LeBron kept reaching out to the 76ers players, and it gave them hope that they were still involved."

As much as the Sixers openly recruited James, the all-time leading scorer was also pursuing the team.

Executive Bob Myers, President of Basketball Operations Mike Gansey, Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown, and others did their part in ensuring James knew he was the organization's priority. As much as those efforts clearly paid off, it appears the four-time NBA champion was showing interest as well. It wasn't so much a task of convincing James but rather open-minded conversations between stars.

James' priority when choosing his final NBA home was, thankfully for the 76ers' sake, winning a title. Philadelphia was unable to offer him the 'storybook' ending the Heat or Cavaliers could present, but that clearly was not enough to sway him.

The rosters in Miami and Cleveland have serious flaws. That's not to say the Sixers' lineup is perfect, but it's the most complete of the bunch. This surely came up in conversations between James and Sixers players.

When there was no hope within the 76ers' organization, James reportedly revived their dreams with efforts of his own doing.
