The details regarding the picks involved in the Philadelphia 76ers-Boston Celtics blockbuster trade have been revealed.
The Philadelphia 76ers made a splash on Wednesday evening.
News broke that the 76ers are sending Paul George and a handful of picks to the Boston Celtics in exchange for Jaylen Brown. The details of the selections involved in the trade have been revealed by NBA insider Shams Charania:
"Details on 76ers picks to the Celtics, per sources:
-- 2028 first-round pick that could convert from a first to a swap that is more favorable to Boston
-- 2031 unprotected Philadelphia first
-- 2028 second round, most favorable of GSW/OKC/MIL
-- 2030 second, most favorable of WAS/PORT/PHX"
These picks are more than worth giving up in exchange for an All-NBA wing in Brown. He averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists on 47.7% shooting and 34.7% shooting from three-point range in 71 games last season.
The 76ers are instantly one of the most dangerous contenders across the entire NBA thanks to this trade. Rolling out a 'Big Four' of Tyrese Maxey, V.J. Edgecombe, Brown, and Joel Embiid should terrify opponents. If Embiid can take a backseat role in the regular season and step up when it matters most, Philadelphia is truly the team to beat in the Eastern Conference.
From the Celtics' perspective, this move is illogical and almost certainly makes them a worse team.
A duo of George and Jayson Tatum isn't likely to make serious noise even in the weaker East. Not to mention, George is on an ugly contract and is well past his prime.
What it likely came down to is the Celtics' relationship with Brown was too far gone, but it's rather stunning Boston's front office could not land a stronger return even with the picks involved.
