After his tenth triple-double, Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid tied Charles Barkley for fourth in the franchise's history.
The Philadelphia 76ers have had some of the best players in NBA history wear the red, white, and blue jersey. Many have etched their name in the hearts of many, and Joel Embiid has done the same.
Embiid has climbed the ranks of the 76ers' record books, and he tied another great in their recent victory over the Milwaukee Bucks. Embiid tied Charles Barkley for fourth all-time in triple-doubles. Embiid notched his tenth triple-double as the 76ers were in desperate need of his efforts to keep a then unbeaten record alive.
In a season that has seen the front office bring in as much help as possible for the franchise, Embiid reminded them that he is the engine that makes it all go. In that Bucks game, it seemed that everything was going Embiid's way. The scoring was happening at an efficient clip; he was dominating the paint, and he made it a point to get his teammates involved.
This is the kind of performance that can give fans and teammates alike the feeling that this season is going to be different. When you’re able to be in the same conversation as one of the best power-forwards in the game, there’s certainly a place for you in the Naismith Pro Basketball Hall of Fame. Embiid secured his tenth triple-double on a pass to newly acquired forward Jaylen Brown, who nailed a three-pointer in the fourth quarter.
His level of importance to not only the team but also the franchise is an understatement. For years, Embiid has been the face of this team and has done everything he can to help this franchise get to the promised land that is the NBA Finals. Despite all of his injuries, missed games, and large amount of criticism for his durability, he's still able to make himself a factor no matter what. It also goes to show what he can do when he’s given the right players around him.
With LeBron James and Brown added, it was thought that some players were going to see their numbers dip, and Embiid proved that this wasn’t going to be the case. Embiid’s skillset is so vast it's going to be hard to pinpoint what he will do on a game-to-game basis.
One thing is for sure: he’s going to go out on that court every night and give it his all, and nothing could prove that to be more true than the night of his tenth triple-double, a number we could see grow as the season goes on.
