LeBron James is ready to start the season, and knows they have the talent to be one of the best in the league.
The LeBron James era in the Philadelphia 76ers has officially begun.
James was recruited by a few of the players, and having him on the team is huge for team morale. But now that the future Hall of Famer is here, he’s already in championship mode.
James spoke at media day and explained that this team looks great on paper, but they have to prove the paper isn’t faulty. It’s time to step on the court and prove this team is as talented as everyone has been saying.
The expectations surrounding this team are certainly high. It can really put pressure on a team that just wants to play within themselves. James has been excited to return to the East and play with one of the more talented rosters in the NBA. Throughout most of his career, James dominated the East, but it’s looking like some of that talent is starting to catch up with him. Teams like the New York Knicks, Detroit Pistons, Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Miami Heat could all pose a threat to that championship run.
That’s why it’s so important to get things straightened out during training camp. It’s already been established that the biggest emphasis is getting the defense in order. If they can get that together, everything else will fall into place. When this team was constructed, it was more about what can best complement Joel Embiid, and James felt he was a good piece to that. He’s already explained that working with the 76ers big man is going to be important for the team.
On the first day of training camp, James informed fans that they are already working on their cohesiveness and putting each other in live situations so they can work out what would be best for everyone that’s on the floor.
It’s this kind of thinking that has been the reason that having James on the team is so important. There are so many things that can go wrong when the game is hanging in the balance, and it helps when someone with 20-plus years of experience is on your team to help you through it.
If players like Jaylen Brown and Joel Embiid are playing their role, this team could easily be one of, if not the best, defensive team in the league. Scoring in the East may be harder to come by than in the past, so with the pedigree of a defensive-minded head coach like Nick Nurse, the defense has to be on point.
