LeBron James has been called out for many things throughout his NBA career. Now, add underachiever to that list.
There are many who say Philadelphia 76ers star LeBron James has done more than enough to be considered a legend. Now, more people are coming out and saying he underachieved.
Olden Polynice spoke on SiriusXM NBA Radio and discussed how he felt James has done very little for his legacy and has in fact underachieved. His reasoning? The fact that Russell Westbrook averaged a triple-double before LeBron James. You know after awhile, it gets to a point, and we’ve absolutely reached that point.
James can be called many things, but to call him an underachiever is asinine, to say the least. Some guys need to be called out when they start spewing nonsense. James has a list of accolades that put him in the upper echelon of basketball. What would many consider underachieving? Not winning championships? Never making an All-Star team? Or how about not winning an MVP? Well, guess what? James has done all of that and then some. Let’s not forget coming back from a 3-1 deficit in the NBA Finals, that's real underachieving right there.
What makes this even more unbelievable is the comparison of Westbrook’s career considering he averaged a triple-double four times. Had James done that, he would have been labeled a stat-stuffer. It would be another discredit added to the criticism of his career.
Now, he comes to Philadelphia to add to the legacy that Polynice says is an underachievement. If James can manage to average 20 points and still get into the playoffs, that should destroy those narratives put upon him.
Philadelphia could be the one that puts him over the top. Even if he doesn’t need it for others' validation. James said on multiple occasions he wants to win. He wants to be on a team that wants to go far and not be content on just winning. To make that possible, the front office came to life and made some moves.
Then James went out and worked out with his new teammates before training camp started. Is that the move of an underachieving player? If he were such a disappointing player, he wouldn’t even be in the conversation of the GOAT debate.
With all the critics and haters in the NBA community, no one would say he underachieved because of some silly stat. Honestly, if James felt like he could play at a high caliber, he surely would have hung it up some years ago.
To say one of the greatest players anyone has ever seen in the NBA is disrespectful. Maybe this year James could quiet all that noise and make history, yet again.
