Jason Williams has high praise for the 76ers' newcomers. So much so, he declares them the best two in the association.
When it comes to duos, it’s like peanut butter and jelly. The two just work well together. When we talk about basketball, there’s always a batman and a robin. For the Philadelphia 76ers, that particular duo is Jaylen Brown and LeBron James.
Former NBA Champion Jason Williams believes that these two could potentially be the best duo in the NBA. If nothing else, they’re the most important players on that roster.
“They’re the best two players on that team. If LeBron James is in the league, he’ll be number one on my list, every list, till I die," said Williams on the Hoopin’ N Hollerin’ Podcast.
Williams' assessment is correct. Even with a healthy Joel Embiid on the team, it's about Brown and James’. It's part of the reason Philadelphia pulled out all the stops to acquire the two all-stars. It makes perfect sense when you think about it. Brown averaged nearly 30 and was able to make quite the litany of tough shots for Boston. Not only that, but he was the engine that made things go without Jayson Tatum. For LeBron, it’s more about being meticulous with the ball.
When he was on the Los Angeles Lakers, the help he had in Anthony Davis and later Luka Dončić was ineffective. With Davis he could never stay on the court while Doncic was just too ball dominant. Doncic was a one-man show in Los Angeles, and it was time for James to move on. Now that he’s arrived in Philadelphia, playing with selfless teammates there, there’s a chance he could have the success he wanted with the Lakers.
This duo will be the leaders of a Philadelphia roster that can create at nearly every position. Williams talks about how as long as James is in the league, he’ll be number one, and it’s easy to see why. James averaged 20 points a game last season, and he still helped get his team to the playoffs. This time around he may be a little bit lower on the point total, but that assist number is going to skyrocket.
For Brown, he gets to know what it feels like to have the burden off his shoulders in a sense. There won’t be any questions of who is better than whom, as many expect Brown to be the top option for this team. This duo will have something to prove. For James, it’s to prove age is just a number, and for Brown, well, he’s here to prove his season wasn’t a one-off and he is who everyone thinks he is.
