The Philadelphia 76ers have had the best start to their season in six years, going 3-0 through their first three games. Their last game against the Orlando Magic was by far their most impressive, as they won it without their star center, Joel Embiid, and they did so convincingly.
Tyrese Maxey was unbelievable, scoring 43 points to go along with eight assists. This was his second time in his first three games scoring 40 or more points, as he had 40 points in the Sixers’ season-opener. To make this more impressive, he’s the first player in franchise history to accomplish this.
VJ Edgecombe also continued his incredible start to his career as he finished with 26 points, eight assists, and four rebounds.
While the Sixers were without Embiid, it was their strongest win of the season, as they beat the Magic by 12 points, as opposed to their last-second victories in their first couple of games. This is now the third game in a row in which the team has been better without Embiid, as he finished with a negative +/- in both of his first two games.
Even so, he had an impressive 20 points in 20 minutes against the Charlotte Hornets, and he appeared to be playing up to his typical standard, even if he was on a minutes restriction.
Now, however, following their third victory of the season, NBA legend DeMarcus Cousins revealed that Philadelphia could potentially look to move on from Embiid.
Though Cousins is a legend, a statement like this has to be taken with a grain of salt. While Embiid hasn’t been the same player as he was a couple of years ago, he’s still in recovery, and the team understands that.
It’s also quite unlikely that the Sixers would be thinking about moving Embiid in the second week of a season in which they’re undefeated. It’s certainly something to monitor considering the source, but it’s not likely that anything will come to fruition with it any time soon.
