Philadelphia 76ers guard Quentin Grimes is mentioned as a potential free agent target for a West team in a recent report from ESPN.

When the Philadelphia 76ers traded away Jared McCain, it signaled a desire to retain guard Quentin Grimes in free agency this offseason.

The interest in bringing back Grimes is entirely valid, as he has shined with the 76ers since joining the team at the 2025 trade deadline, especially last season. He has been in a bit of a slump in recent months, not recording 20 or more points since Dec. 5 against the Milwaukee Bucks.

It shouldn't be a surprise if other teams make an effort to sign Grimes this summer, but one organization few anticipated could be in the mix is the Los Angeles Lakers.

ESPN's Dave McMenamin mentioned Grimes as a possible free agent target for the Lakers in a new report, writing, "An unrestricted free agent who has been discussed internally, sources told ESPN, is Andrew Wiggins, but he has a player option with Miami he could exercise. Tobias Harris, Quentin Grimes and Dean Wade are other players who fit that profile."

Daryl Morey and company need to do everything in their power to keep Grimes in Philadelphia, as their guard depth will be depleted if he decides to go elsewhere. The 76ers signed 10-year NBA veteran Cameron Payne earlier this week in hopes he's able to fill the void in the backcourt left by McCain.

For the Lakers, signing Grimes feels a bit redundant with Austin Reaves in the mix. Both are score-first guards who are clearly capable of scoring 25+ points in the right situation. Pursuing Wiggins, Harris, or another defensive-minded forward feels like a better route for Los Angeles given they can contribute to the first unit.

It feels far more likely Grimes will desire a destination where he's paid handsomely but also able to rejoin the starting lineup.
