Nick Nurse feels LeBron James is going to be huge for the team offensively. But, his impact will matter more as the season goes on.
Philadelphia 76ers coach Nick Nurse has voiced his opinion about LeBron James.
At first, it was just complimentary takes about how vocal James is on the defensive side. Now, it’s a bit more detailed than that. Nurse feels that James does a tremendous job of setting up the offense. Nurse commended him on how he gets everyone to their spots and assesses what’s happening on the floor. Nurse even went on to say that for James, it’s not just about bringing the ball up the floor or being in position to score but giving the offense its best chance to have a positive possession.
Nurse believes that they’ll more than likely give James the ball when he’s on the wing to begin with. This kind of confidence is exactly what the front office wanted to hear when they were making these moves to improve the team. James is doing what everyone expects of him; he’s changing the way the team thinks. No, we’re not calling him the coach or saying that he’s taking over. It’s just that what he brings to the team is something they’ve never had.
Each year the team has gone through Embiid, but there was never a voice for the team. They had plenty of all-stars on their roster, but no one stood out the way James does for this team. He’s just someone who gets the team organized, and he has what it takes to settle the team down when things start to go awry.
Nurse wants this team to be ready for anything that comes their way, and to do that, he has to throw every defensive wrinkle and situational opportunity at them. This is the kind of thing that makes Nurse such a great coach. He’s using James as the primary option in practice so that this team will know what he wants when they get into a game. Whether it’s giving James the ball on the first few possessions or allowing the other guys to run the offense so they can see the difference in change of pace.
It’s just so many ways to get this team in preparation for the season, and it all starts with LeBron James. He’s the mind that makes the body move. When this team practices, it’s going to be very active and loud.
James has made an impression on everyone he’s played with; now the 76ers are seeing it firsthand. If they can handle what James and Nurse can teach them, this team will be a major force.
