In the new age of the NBA, teams can’t have just one superstar. You have to have a partner in crime in order to have any success in the association. CBS Sports recently did a ranking of the top 12 duos, and the Philadelphia 76ers were ranked fifth. The best part about all of this is there isn’t just one choice; it could be any two in any given night.
The luxury that this 76ers team has is that there won’t be a singular player to focus on. You could have LeBron James and Jaylen Brown go off one night. Then, you have VJ Edgecombe and Tyrese Maxey do numbers another night. Throw in Joel Embiid with any of these players, and no matter what, you’re in for a rough night.
This is the beauty of basketball. You can win in so many different ways that it’s hard to tell where the weaknesses are. For a Philadelphia team that is pressed for their first championship in over 30 years, it’s a beautiful sight to behold. Some may even say being ranked fifth is too low considering there are so many options to choose from.
Well, that’s why it’s only fifth. These guys still have to build some chemistry. The other stops ranked above them have been together for a few years and are considered unstoppable duos. But when we get to the middle of the season, that ranking is sure to change. But let's put our own spin on it and say the best duo for the 76ers will be Jaylen Brown and Tyrese Maxey.
These two will be the cog that keeps things running for the 76ers. Brown and Maxey are both shot creators, but they have different styles that complement one another. Maxey can go at you with his speed and creativity of getting to the basket. Meanwhile, for Brown, he likes to take his time to get to his spot to hit you with a nice turnaround shot or shoot outside the square. That’s just a taste of what could be in store when these two get going.
It’s hard to tell what you’re going to get from the 76ers. Each player can partner up and be a thorn in the side of opposing defenses. One thing is true: this may be the most unorthodox team in the NBA. Which is a great problem for someone like head coach Nick Nurse to handle.
This team will have players come from every which way, no doubt causing lots of frustration. This team is no longer a duo but a quartet in the making.
