The Philadelphia 76ers are now a serious contender, which could potentially lure LeBron James to the team.

The Philadelphia 76ers made a move no one expected by trading for Boston Celtics superstar Jaylen Brown on Wednesday.

The 76ers sent out veteran forward Paul George along with two first-round picks and two second-round picks in exchange for Brown.

This trade instantly vaults the 76ers among championship contenders in the NBA, which could potentially lure a free agent superstar to Philadelphia.

LeBron James is not returning to the Los Angeles Lakers and is prioritizing happiness over finances for his final season(s) in the league. He is undoubtedly looking to hoist the Larry O'Brien Trophy a final time before calling it a career, and the Sixers could be the destination to do so.

It makes more sense for both parties than a first glance suggests.

For starters, James was linked to the 76ers back in 2018 before signing with the Lakers, so the connection has already been established in the past.

The 76ers' lone "hole" in the starting lineup is at power forward, which is a position James is very familiar with and comfortable playing. So, finding a spot for him in the starting lineup would not create any issues, as Dean Wade could simply shift to the second unit.

James is still an All-Star-caliber player, as he averaged 20.9 points, 7.2 assists, and 6.1 rebounds on 51.5% shooting in 60 games last season.

A starting lineup of Tyrese Maxey, V.J. Edgecombe, Brown, James, and Joel Embiid would undoubtedly be the favorites to win the title next season.

Not to mention, the 76ers still have an open roster spot.

As long as James is truly willing to sign for a veteran minimum contract, the 76ers quickly become one of the most appealing destinations for him to finish out his illustrious career.
