76ers Have One Thing No Other LeBron James Suitor Can Offer

The Philadelphia 76ers have multiple advantages in the LeBron James free agency sweepstakes, but one stands out above the rest because no other suitor can offer it.

10 organizations made it onto the whiteboard James' agent Rich Paul created: the 76ers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves, Denver Nuggets, New York Knicks, Golden State Warriors, Boston Celtics, Dallas Mavericks, and San Antonio Spurs.

Of that list, the 76ers are the only team that can offer James a backseat role.

Let's break it down.

With the Timberwolves, Nuggets, Warriors, Celtics, Mavericks, Heat, and Spurs, James would instantly need to be a top-two scoring option. In Minnesota, he'd be the No. 2 option behind Anthony Edwards; in Denver, behind Nikola Jokic; in Golden State, behind Stephen Curry; in Boston, behind Jayson Tatum; in Dallas, he'd arguably be the No. 1 option; in Miami, behind Giannis Antetokounmpo; and in San Antonio, behind Victor Wembanyama.

The Cavaliers and Knicks have more scoring options than the teams listed previously but would still ask James to be a primary option. Cleveland has two score-first guards in Donovan Mitchell and James Harden, but the latter has slowed down on the offensive end in recent years. New York already has a plethora of forwards (Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby, Josh Hart), but none score at a high volume like James is capable of.

Philadelphia could allow James to be as low as the No. 5 scoring option behind Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown, Joel Embiid, and V.J. Edgecombe.

This could either work in the 76ers' favor or heavily against them.

If James' sole focus is winning a championship without needing to carry a team at times, Philadelphia is the perfect landing spot. However, if he desires a heavy scoring load even at age 41, there are already too many mouths to feed on the Sixers.

Whether this factor will help or hurt the 76ers remains to be seen.
