The 76ers know who is going to be on the floor to start the season, but we don't know how each player is viewed in terms of purpose to the team.
The Philadelphia 76ers are a team stacked with talent. It’s always some talk about how this team is going to work and share the ball.
Now, players are starting to look into what each player's role will be.
Lonzo Ball and LiAngelo Ball discuss that very thing and detail how each player can make an impact in their respective roles. They make comparisons between the Miami Heat team and this Philadelphia team, but their thought of Philadelphia being better is pretty surprising.
Joel Embiid was a huge part of their argument, and they labeled him the best player when healthy. That’s an important argument because this is a guy who was once in the MVP conversation on a yearly basis. Now after dealing with ailing injuries, he’s in the best shape many have seen in years; it’s tough to argue how he isn’t the best player on that roster.
LeBron James has been labeled as the brains of the operation. This is the perfect description for James. Knowing that he will be running the offense is the best way to detail how he’ll be viewed by everyone. He’s seen every defense scheme ever created, and he knows how to find the weak link of the team. It’s going to be up to him to get everyone involved to ensure a victory.
Tyrese Maxey is the high-powered engine that will be the scoring machine he was always meant to be. Maxey averaged 28 points last year, and that was with him dominating the ball for most of the game. Now, he gets to move freely and be active in the way Steph Curry is for the Golden State Warriors. When it’s time to push the pace, Maxey will be the go-to person, and that’s going to be a problem for all involved.
Jaylen Brown is going to be the glue that keeps this team together. Brown can do just about anything you need a player to do. Defend, score, and find a way to get his shots. All of this while being a big motivator will be what makes him the most important player on the team.
Then we have VJ Edgecombe; here’s a young guy who many aren’t familiar with. Sure he played last year, but his growth is only just beginning. This, plus having all these seasoned veterans around him, makes him a huge wildcard for the team. His versatile scoring ability could lead to nights where he is the leader on the team in points. It’s just so much he can do; it’ll be hard to pinpoint.
All these pieces coming together will be the icing on the cake for Philadelphia. Now, they have to get this engine running and race to an NBA Finals appearance.
