Will the Milwaukee Bucks finally get a Giannis Antetokounmpo deal done?
The offseason has officially begun, but Giannis Antetokounmpo remains a member of the Milwaukee Bucks.
The Bucks have reportedly been negotiating, or at least listening to offers, from multiple teams since the offseason started, but nothing has gotten across the finish line just yet.
The NBA Draft will be held on Tuesday, June 23, and has been looked at as a soft deadline for the team as known lottery picks would be involved in the deal. If no deal gets done before the draft, the Bucks will be looking at unknown future first-round picks or be beholden to the player drafted if they are able to work out a deal with any team.
Throughout the offseason process, the Boston Celtics have been a heavily rumored destination for Giannis, which has gained steam after reports indicated that Giannis wanted to stay in the Eastern Conference and play for a contender.
A New Mock Trade
Bleacher Report published a new mock trade that would send Giannis to Boston in a three-team deal.
Hawks receive: Jaylen Brown (from Celtics), Andre Jackson Jr. (from Bucks), No. 27 (from Celtics), $3 million trade exception (Buddy Hield)
Celtics Receive: Giannis Antetokounmpo (from Bucks)
Bucks Receive: Jonathan Kuminga (from Hawks), Zaccharie Risacher (from Hawks), Corey Kispert (from Hawks), Buddy Hield (from Hawks), Max Shulga (from Celtics), No. 8 (from Hawks), No. 23 (from Hawks), 2027 unprotected first-rounder (from Celtics), 2029 unprotected first-rounder (from Hawks)
In total, the Bucks would land four first round picks, including a guaranteed lottery pick. They'd also still have the number ten overall pick in this year's draft.
Should The Bucks Make This Deal?
It's a very strong haul for Milwaukee that enhances their rebuild, which is going to be tough in trading Giannis but not having control of their immediate draft future.
They would have two top ten picks in a very deep draft, and another bit at the apple at number 23. The Celtics unprotected pick in 2027 is likely to be in the 25-30 range unless things go horribly wrong for them next season. The Hawks pick could have some value in 2029.
Jonathan Kuminga has shown flashes, and maybe with a bigger opportunity, he can finally carve out a role for himself in the NBA. Risacher was the number one overall pick in 2024, but has yet to make a real impact in two seasons.
Kispert and Hield could potentially be flipped later on as they are on good contracts and have value to teams needing shooting off the bench.
There is no equal value for Giannis, but having two top ten picks in this draft, a couple of young assets, and tradeable contracts is a good start as the franchise rebuilds.
