The Bucks have a bright young future ahead.
Looking at the way the Milwaukee Bucks ended their regular season, it would have been easy to assume that the future of Milwaukee basketball was going to be dark and miserable.
The Bucks has just had their worst regular season finish in a decade and missed the playoffs for the first time in that span as well and on top of that their franchise star Giannis Antetokounmpo was essentially publicly feuding with the team and building momentum to being traded away.
Milwaukee fans were quickly looking at the decline of their organization and the impending exodus of their superstar and it would have been easy to think that their future was in shambles.
Transforming the Team
Now though? The Bucks did go through with trading Antetokounmpo away along with Bobby Portis and in the process received a huge haul from the Miami Heat that sent them talented young players, all of whom are 26-years-old or younger, as well as three first-round picks, one pick swap and one second-round pick.
They already translated one of those first-round picks into Nate Ament in the 2026 NBA Draft and they've continued to make moves in the weeks since, most recently by trading Taurean Prince and Gary Harris for Caris LeVert and two more second round picks.
By being aggressive with their offseason the Bucks have added seven first-round picks and four second-round picks, all coming up in the near future, and in the process have offloaded salary to the point that they have over $36 million in First Apron space and will have even more salary due off the books after next season.
Managing Money for the Future
They still owe Damian Lillard $113 million, though the cap hit of that money has been stretched out as "dead money" after the Bucks waived Lillard, but overall Milwaukee is in a dramatically different place as a franchise now that it was just a month ago.
The Bucks can look forward to a bright future with an opportunity to draft even more young talent over the next half decade which should rapidly speed up their rebuilding process and may be accelerate the Bucks back into playoff contention sooner than anyone could have expected.
It was a difficult road to get to this point for the Bucks and it did take a lot of frustration, drama and heartache, but now Milwaukee has been transformed as a team and with a new head coach in Taylor Jenkins at the helm and a shrewd general manager in Jon Horst, their could be good things ahead.
