ESPN NBA insiders praised Brayden Burries for his versatility and value at his draft position.
This offseason the Milwaukee Bucks decided to commit to a full rebuild and traded away franchise cornerstone Giannis Antetokounmpo. The team finished 32-50 in 2025-2026 and ended up with the 10th overall pick in the draft.
With that pick they selected guard Brayden Burries out of Arizona. Burries, 20, was one of the key factors to the Wildcats' run to the National Championship in 2026, and he was known for his offensive versatility.
Burries is a guard who can handle the ball and shoot efficiently from the field. In his lone season at Arizona, Burries shot 39 percent from three-point range and 49 from the floor. He had big games for the team as well where he showed he could be the true lead guard and take over a game offensively.
Bob Donnan-Imagn ImagesESPN NBA insiders came out and took a vote on who will prove to be the biggest draft steal next season. The majority of the votes went to Brayden Burries.
The insiders praised Burries because of his abilities as a combo guard and they believe his ceiling is high because of the opportunities he will have in this new rebuilding phase.
How Will Burries Find Success in Milwaukee?
Brayden Burries didn't come to Milwaukee from the NBA Draft alone. The franchise used the pick the Miami Heat gave them in the Giannis deal to select forward Nate Ament from Tennessee with the 13th overall pick.
Brad Penner-Imagn ImagesBurries will have a chance to build chemistry with him as well as some key pieces added from the Giannis deal. Kel'el Ware and Tyler Herro are coming from Miami to Milwaukee, and they will be key factors to the Bucks' success in the near future.
The Bucks are providing Burries with a healthy mix of veterans and young players, allowing for room to grow in year one. While there could be growing pains because of all of the new additions to this roster, the experience will be crucial for Burries.
Milwaukee's coaching staff will need to prioritize getting him on the court as much as he can to get adjusted to NBA game speed and physicality. Once he finds his rhythm, he could be productive very quickly.
David Leong-Imagn ImagesOver time his defensive and offensive abilities could make him stand out amongst the other players drafted near his position. In the Summer League, he made plays where he turned defense into offense and looked like the best player on the floor.
If Burries can continue to play with aggressiveness on both ends of the floor, Milwaukee could have their next lead guard of the future.
