One trade idea would deal Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Bay Area, and bring the Bucks Jimmy Butler back.

The Milwaukee Bucks are staring down one of the most consequential decisions in franchise history. Giannis Antetokounmpo won't be eligible to sign an extension until October 1, but the two months between now and then will tell the Bucks everything they need to know about where this is headed.

If he's not extending, they have to move fast. Bleacher Report's Eric Pincus laid out one scenario this week that would reshape the entire Western Conference. The Golden State Warriors want in on the Giannis sweepstakes, and the package they're proposing is designed to give Milwaukee something real to work with.

The Warriors would send Jimmy Butler, Brandin Podziemski, a 2026 first-round pick, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2030 protected first-round pick, and a 2032 protected first-round pick to Milwaukee in exchange for Giannis.

Breaking Down the Trade

For Golden State, the math is simple. Pairing Giannis with Stephen Curry gives the franchise the superstar duo it's been missing and extends what's left of the Curry era. Butler's $58.5 million salary serves as the primary matching piece, though his recovery from a serious knee injury means he likely won't be ready until January.

The Warriors also throw in Podziemski and four first-round picks spread across several years. Pincus notes the deal would need to be agreed upon before the NBA Draft on June 23, with execution happening July 6 after the moratorium clears.

Milwaukee's side of this equation is trickier. Giannis is the franchise, and trading him is an organizational reset no matter how good the return is. But if he's made clear he's leaving, the Bucks don't have a choice, they either move him for value or watch him walk for nothing in 2027.

What Milwaukee Gets

Butler is a former All-Star and one of the better two-way wings in the league when healthy. The knee is the real concern. Counting on him to come back from an ACL tear and immediately stabilize a franchise in transition is a significant ask. The Bucks could keep him through the season and flip him at the deadline if things don't work out.

Podziemski, 23, averaged 13.8 points, 3.7 assists, and 1.1 steals per game this past season, playing all 82 games. He's a Wisconsin native, provides youth and shooting, and is eligible for a rookie-scale extension this summer.

The larger question for Milwaukee is whether this package beats what Miami is reportedly willing to offer. The Heat's proposal is expected to include Tyler Herro, Kel'el Ware, and multiple first-round picks. Both offers have merit and both carry risk.

The Bucks will have to weigh not just the assets but where Giannis actually wants to go, because he has real leverage in this situation and could push hard for a specific destination. This is one of the most fascinating offseason storylines in years, and Milwaukee is right at the center of it.
