For the first time since 2013, the Milwaukee Bucks will enter a season without Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Giannis has been one of the starters in Milwaukee since 2014, and now the team searches for a new identity without one of the best players in the world.

In trading Giannis and Bobby Portis to the Miami Heat, the Bucks brought in Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kel'el Ware, Kasparas Jakučionis, and 13th overall pick Nate Ament.

With a big roster turnover, the starting lineup is going to look much different than it did last season.

The starters for the 2025 season opener were Giannis, AJ Green, Gary Trent Jr, Myles Turner, and Kevin Porter Jr.

Four of those players are still on the roster, but three of them may no longer be starters.

Ryan Rollins had a breakout season last year, averaging 17.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 5.6 assists on 47% shooting and 40% from three to take over as the starting point guard.

He should be in that same role this season, though the team will look much different around him. Rollins got to lead the offense with Giannis out, but now the offense will be more balanced with the additions from Miami and two lottery picks.

Rollins has to show that last year was no fluke and that he’s ready to earn a big-time contract.

Tyler Herro has been viewed as a young star, but he’s now 26 and is no longer considered young by NBA terms.

Herro has been a sold producer since winning Sixth Man of the Year in 2022, but now he’ll need to prove that he can lead a young squad as the top option on a team with low expectations.

He’s in a contract year, and while getting his numbers will provide value, fitting the team could go a longer way in earning his next big deal.

It’s possible the Bucks bring him off the bench and play a little smaller with Caris LeVert or Gary Trent Jr. as the starting small forward, but Jaime Jaquez Jr. is the better player, and the Bucks would be wise to see what they truly have with him in the final year of his rookie deal.

Jaquez will need to prove he can handle a starting role and expand his game in leading an offense.

Kyle Kuzma started at various points last season, though it’s unclear if he’ll get that spot coming out of training camp.

If he does, he’ll have to find his role on a team that is looking to move forward without him. He’s in the final year of his deal, and we’ve seen him be the top option on a bad Washington Wizards team.

He’ll need to find a three-and-D form, not only for Milwaukee to succeed, but if he wants the chance to play playoff basketball elsewhere this year.

Myles Turner had a disappointing first season with the Bucks, and now he finds himself in a different role than he signed up for. He thought he was going to be the missing piece beside Giannis. Instead, he’s just a piece.

With Kel’el Ware added from Miami, Turner will have to bounce back in a big way if he hopes to be the starter by the end of the season.
