Could Giannis Antetokounmpo land in Miami?
The long national Giannis Antetokounmpo trade rumor nightmare could come to an end this offseason, perhaps as early as the NBA Draft on June 23.
Antetokounmpo's name has been in the rumor mill for a year, but the Milwaukee Bucks have decided to hold firm on their superstar up until this point. At least for now, the two sides are too far apart to come back together to repair the relationship to keep Giannis in Milwaukee, the only franchise he's ever played for.
Of course, things move fast in the NBA, and things can always change very quickly. But until further notice, teams are trying to negotiate with the Bucks in hopes of landing one of the five best players in the league.
The Miami Heat Offer
Any time there is a superstar on the trade block, expect them to be linked to the Miami Heat. Pat Riley is always looking to make a splash, and Miami has pieces pundits are in love with, ranging from ready to contribute player to young and growing players to draft capital.
Despite the lure of Miami and Riley's interest, the team has failed to land one of those superstars, striking out on Donovan Mitchell, Kevin Durant, and Damian Lillard in recent years. They've even lost Jimmy Butler, who grew tired of how things were going in South Beach.
ESPN published a mock trade that would put Giannis in Miami, with the Heat giving up their 2026 first-round pick (No. 13), Tyler Herro, Kel'el Ware, Nikola Jovic, 2029 first-round pick, and 2031 first-round pick.
Is It Enough For Milwaukee?
Every mock draft involving the Heat for years has included Herro, Jovic, and draft compensation, and this one is no different.
Getting a guaranteed lottery pick, a potential starting center in Ware, proven rotation pieces in Herro and Jovic, and two more firsts might be the best Milwaukee can do, but teams haven't jumped on the Tyler Herro Trade Package for a reason over the years.
Herro doesn't move the needle in these deals due to his contract, though he's now on an expiring deal worth $33 million, which is easier to swallow than past seasons. He's an easy trade candidate at the trade deadline for Milwaukee.
Jovic is only 23 and Ware is only 22, easily putting them into Milwaukee's timeline. The Bucks already have the 10th overall pick in the draft, and could either get two long-term pieces or aggregate the picks to move up in the draft.
The Bucks may not end up with a franchise superstar out of this deal, but it could very well be the best offer on the table.
