Houston Mallette spent time with the Bulls' Summer League team in Las Vegas this July, and now finds himself competing for a roster spot.
Training camp is less than a week away for the Chicago Bulls, who are bringing in some young talent to potentially fill their final two-way contract roster spot.
Mallette stands 6-foot-5 and is 185 pounds. He was a member of Chicago's Summer League roster, logging seven points, nine rebounds and six assists over three games in Las Vegas. That included a game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, in which he totaled two points, six rebounds (five offensive) and six assists. Mallette was 0-of-2 on two-pointers and 1-of-10 on three-point shots.
The 23-year-old began his collegiate career at Pepperdine, starting 90 of his 94 games from 2021 to 2024. As a junior, Mallette averaged 14.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 0.8 steals per game while shooting 41.5% from beyond the arc.
Mallette then entered the transfer portal and committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide. He initially played sparingly in Tuscaloosa, appearing in just six games in 2024-25, before entering the lineup this past season. Mallette played in all 35 of Alabama's games and started 12 as the Crimson Tide reached the Sweet 16.

In the Round of 32 against Texas Tech, Mallette converted on five of his seven three-point attempts for 15 points and added eight rebounds to held send the No. 5 seed Red Raiders home.
Entering training camp, Chicago has 14 of its 15 possible roster spots filled and two of its three two-way contract slots filled. Mallette, who shot 37.2% from deep over his college career, makes an intriguing case for the Bulls to take a swing on.
The Bulls already have a downhill scorer in Jaylin Sellers and a paint force in Tobe Awaka on two-way contracts. Chicago already lacks shooting — having invested in Caleb Wilson and Dailyn Swain with its two top draft picks this spring — and desperately needs someone who can provide catch-and-shoot triples to its offense.
Training camp officially begins for the Bulls on Tuesday, Sep. 29, and Chicago will host the Phoenix Suns for its first preseason action on Wednesday, Oct. 7. Mallette will look to make the case for the Bulls' final two-way contract until then.
