The Bulls were quiet this offseason. Now just days away from the team tipping off its 2025-26 season, Chicago has parted ways with its lone summer free agent signing.
In a Friday afternoon press release, the Bulls announced they had waived 24-year-old guard Yuki Kawamura, who signed a two-way contract with the team in July. The move was the result of a right lower leg injury, according to Chicago Sports Network's K.C. Johnson.
ESPN NBA Insider Shams Charania additionally reported that Chicago had signed former Clippers forward Trentyn Flowers in a corresponding move. Flowers, 20, will be on a two-way deal with the team.
Kawamura joined the NBA for the 2024-25 season after beginning his career in Japan's B.League, and he quickly became a fan favorite. The 5-foot-7 point guard appeared in 22 games for the Memphis Grizzlies, averaging 1.6 points and 0.9 assists in just 4.3 minutes per game.

The majority of Kawamura's rookie season was spent in the G League as a member of the Memphis Hustle. Across 24 games, Kawamura posted 12.4 points, 7.8 assists and one steal per game while shooting 41.0% from three-point range.
Kawamura signed a two-way contract with Chicago on July 19, making the training camp roster over Jahmir Young. The Japan native totaled six points, eight assists and eight rebound over two preseason games this summer, though he did not appear in the Bulls' final three exhibition contests.
Chicago signed three-time Slam Dunk Contest champion Mac McClung earlier in the day on Friday, but the flashy guard was not the player who took Kawamura's two-way spot. The Bulls instead brought in Flowers, a 6-foot-9 forward.
Flowers skipped college to play professionally for the NBL's Adelaide 36ers, then went undrafted in 2024. He spent the 2024-25 season as a two-way player for the Los Angeles Clippers, averaging 1.6 points over six NBA games. Flowers showed his potential in 27 games with the G League's San Diego Clippers, in which he put up 20 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.

In his lone 2025 preseason performance in L.A., Flowers scored 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting against the Guangzhou Loong-Lions.
The Chicago Bulls begin their regular season at home on Wednesday, October 22, against the Detroit Pistons.
