Minnesota eyes Coby White for its point guard void.

Though the midseason trade deadline is yet to come, one Chicago Bulls point guard has been placed in trade rumor discussions.

The Minnesota Timberwolves are interested in Coby White, according to the Chicago Sun-Times' Joe Cowley, with a potential package including Donte DiVincenzo, Terrence Shannon Jr. and a future pick. The back-to-back Western Conference finalists have been searching for an elite point guard to solve their ball-handling issues and support Anthony Edwards, with names like Ja Morant and Kyrie Irving previously on their radar.

Now, they've mapped out more options and inquired about White, hoping not to wait until the February trade deadline, per the Sun-Times.

White was sidelined at the beginning of the season due to a calf injury and returned in November. In six games played, he's averaged 23.8 points and 6.2 assists while shooting 32.7% from three-point range. The Bulls' star guard, whose contract expires in 2026, turned down a contract extension before the season and plans to explore unrestricted free agency.

Before Minnesota entered trade conversations, the Houston Rockets were suggested as a potential suitor for White after starting guard Fred VanVleet suffered a season-ending ACL tear. However, Houston has since inserted sophomore Reed Sheppard into the starting lineup.

The Bulls' front office has historically resisted tanking, even during the Bulls' current seven-game losing streak. But making moves before February could bring necessary changes. Last year's trade deadline acquisition of Zach Collins, Kevin Huerter and Tre Jones wasn't particularly impressive—three fringe starters—but it resulted in a 15-5 finish over the final 20 games that clinched a Play-In berth. If moving White yields similar returns or future assets, it might be Chicago's best path forward in the short term.
