The Cleveland Cavaliers are promoting executive Brandon Weems to General Manager under President Koby Altman.

According to NBA insider Shams Charania of ESPN, the Cleveland Cavaliers are promoting executive Brandon Weems to General Manager under President Koby Altman.

Weems has been in the Cavaliers organization for the last decade, rising through scouting and personnel roles before becoming assistant GM in 2022.

Now, Weems is the GM.

LeBron James and Weems are very, very close friends. That's why many people who cover the NBA thought LeBron would return to the Cavaliers this offseason, but the basketball legend shocked the sports world by signing a two-year, $8 million deal with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Cleveland thought LeBron would come home to play with Donovan Mitchell, James Harden, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen.

Instead, LeBron is now teammates with Joel Embiid, Jaylen Brown, Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe in Philly.

It's too bad we won't get to see LeBron play for Cleveland again. The King said the 76ers will be his last stop in the NBA.

"This is my last decision," LeBron wrote on social media. "I’m not going for money. I’m not going for family. What am I really playing for at this point? I still want to sacrifice. I still want to work. I still want to grind. I still want to compete, to win and to have a chance at the feeling of winning another championship.

“I believe I can help make the Philadelphia 76ers a championship team and I am so excited to energize a new fan base and start this incredible journey one last time. Thank you LA. Miami I’ll forever love and Northeast Ohio will always home!”

The Cavaliers will start Harden, Mitchell, Peyton Watson, Mobley and Allen next season. Cleveland acquired Watson from the Denver Nuggets after LeBron signed with the 76ers.

Can a core of Harden, Mitchell, Watson, Mobley and Allen win a championship? We'll find out soon.

The biggest move the Cavaliers made this offseason was signing Mitchell to a massive extension. Mitchell agreed to a four-year, $273 million maximum contract extension with Cleveland.

The Cavaliers acquired Mitchell from the Utah Jazz in 2022. Mitchell is averaging 26.7 points per game in the regular season and 27.3 points per game in the playoffs in a Cleveland uniform.

If the Cavaliers falter in the 2027 playoffs, don't be surprised if Mitchell, Harden and Allen are not on the team in 2027-28.
