Cleveland Cavaliers center Jarrett Allen made a 3 against the Brooklyn Nets.
Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star center Jarrett Allen made a 3-pointer on Saturday against the Brooklyn Nets.
It was Allen's 21st career 3-pointer.
After the Cavaliers beat the Nets, Evan Mobley spoke about Allen shooting 3s this season.
"The team loves it," Mobley said. "Anytime he hits a three, it gives us all energy. He’s been working on that all summer, so I think whenever the time comes, he’s not backing down from those shots. Tonight, that was a great shot by him, and it just brings us all up and brings us energy, and we just feed off that.”
Cleveland beat Brooklyn 125-121. Allen finished with 21 points and eight rebounds in 27 minutes.
It will be fascinating to see how many 3-pointers Allen shoots and makes this season. The more perimeter threats the Cavaliers have, the better.
Cleveland lost to the Philadelphia 76ers on opening night. The Cavaliers blew a 29-point lead to the 76ers and lost. They almost blew a huge lead against the Nets, too.
What is going on in Cleveland? Head coach Kenny Atkinson thinks his players aren't in good shape yet.
"I think part of this too is we’re not in elite condition right now, which is kind of normal," Atkinson said. "Second game, getting your rhythm, we’re not there. I told the guys in the timeout we got to fight through the fatigue. I thought we had moments of fatigue.”
The Cavaliers lost to the 76ers 114-106. They were outscored 37-21 in the third quarter and 32-16 in the fourth quarter.
Cleveland beat Brooklyn 125-121. However, the Cavaliers were outscored 41-29 in the fourth quarter.
Until the Cavaliers prove they can close out games, they will continue to be disrespected by the national media.
Cleveland made the conference finals last season for the first time without LeBron James on the roster since 1992. The Cavaliers should have won Game 1 in New York against the Knicks at MSG, but they choked.
Trailing by 22 points with 8:19 left in the fourth quarter of Game 1, the Knicks had Jalen Brunson go at James Harden on defense, and it got ugly for Harden and Co. The result was a 44-11 flurry by New York in the fourth quarter and overtime, completing one of the greatest comebacks in NBA history with a 115-104 victory.
Clearly, the Cavaliers didn't learn anything this summer, as they choked against the 76ers on national television. Again!
This season, Harden, Donovan Mitchell, Mobley and Allen will try to do what LeBron did in 2016. The 2015-16 Cavaliers won the 2016 championship against the 73-9 Golden State Warriors for the only NBA title in Cleveland franchise history.
To win it all, Mitchell and the Cavaliers need to learn how to close game.
Next up for Cleveland is a matchup against the 3-0 Minnesota Timberwolves. That is going to be a tough game for the Cavaliers, as the Timberwolves are very talented, led by Anthony Edwards, LaMelo Ball, Rudy Gobert, Jonathan Kuminga and Jaden McDaniels.
Through two games, the Cavaliers are averaging 115.5 points per game and giving up 117.5 points per game. They are first in pace at 108.1.
