With one Cleveland sports franchise fighting for an opportunity to get into the postseason and another seemingly in constant disarray, the Cavaliers can provide hope again as the fall approaches.

The Cleveland Guardians are in the midst of an end-of-season stretch, battling to make October for the second straight year. The Cleveland Browns have just begun their 2025 NFL season, sitting at a frustrating 0-2 in the campaign's infancy.

Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers are still 11 days away from starting anew. When media day arrives in 11 days, the team will commence training camp in Bradenton, Florida, and, subsequently, the preseason.

In the latest episode of Courtside with Cavs, Spencer German and I discussed how the wine and gold could be viewed as a beacon of hope among other teams in the city. We also touched on how much the season will matter before the playoffs in April.

"It's been a little while since that Pacers series happened. It's been a little while since we had those exit interviews. I think it's about that time of year where the optimism's going to seep in again, and I think it's twofold. One, you made a couple of moves over the offseason -- Lonzo Ball, Larry Nance Jr., bringing some veterans in and guys who can play both sides of the ball and not be deficient on one side of the court or the other.

"And two, for the reason that you just said. Whatever's going on down over by the lake is not working out, so you need to move on to the next team. Let me give a little bit of pause: the Guardians have a big series against the Tigers. There's an actual chance they could still take the division, and there's still Wild Card hope.

"But outside of that, it's the Cavs, and I think that's where most fans are going to give their energy and commit their time to a team that has proven to be one of the most exciting in town for a number of years now. It's just up to them to hold up their end of the bargain when it gets past April."
