Despite pleas from his teammate Jaylen Brown, Boston Celtics guard Derrick White will not be going to the NBA All-Star Game, at least not yet.
While Brown was named a starter for the the first time, White was not on the list of reserves that came out Sunday. He can still be announced as a replacement if someone can't go or gets injured, but as of now, he's not in the game.
Brown is the only Celtics player despite the team being in second place in the Eastern Conference.
Per the NBA's website on the new format for this season:
In a new U.S. vs. World format for the 2026 NBA All-Star Game, two teams of U.S. players and one team of international players (known as the World team) will compete in a round-robin tournament featuring four 12-minute games. The three teams will each have a minimum of eight players.
In the round-robin tournament, Team A will play Team B in Game 1. The winning team from Game 1 will take on Team C in Game 2, followed by the losing team of Game 1 meeting Team C in Game 3.
After Game 3, the top two teams by record will advance to face each other in the championship game (Game 4). If all three teams have a 1-1 record after Game 3, the tiebreaker would be point differential in each team’s two round-robin games.
A nine-year veteran of the San Antonio Spurs and Celtics, White is averaging 17.2 ppg this season while shooting 39.1 percent from the floor and 32.3 percent from three-point range (entering play on Sunday). While his point averages are up, his shooting percentages are actually down, but some of that is likely attributed to his bigger volume of shots this season. He shot 44 percent from the floor a year ago and 38 percent from three. He's attempting nearly three more shots a game in this campaign.
As Brown noted in his pleas, White is also a stellar defender. He has been named Second-Team All-Defense in two of the last three seasons and also has finished in the Top 10 for Defensive Player of the Year in two of the last three. He's averaging 1.5 blocks per game.
He helped the Celtics win the NBA title in 2023-24 as Boston beat the Dallas Mavericks. He helped Team USA win a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics as well.
Feb. 15 in Inglewood, Calif., the home of the Los Angeles Clippers.
After rolling the Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday afternoon, the Celtics are 31-18 on the campaign, which is all the more impressive without Jayson Tatum, who is still out with a torn Achilles that he suffered in last year's playoffs.
