Look, I kind of gave Brown a pass for them, but others are not.

On Thursday, Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum appeared on a podcast, and within that interview, he spoke about former teammate Jaylen Brown and the trade that sent him to the Philadelphia 76ers this offseason.

As he did all offseason, Tatum was complimentary of Brown and appreciative of the two's time together. With regards to the trade of Brown, Tatum indicated that he had no prior knowledge of it and that he was as taken aback by the move as every fan was.

Once that podcast clip hit social media feeds, Brown responded with a "cap" emoji, essentially calling Tatum a liar. However, we don't know what exactly Brown thinks Tatum is lying about.

Now, as I wrote on Friday: I think Brown's response is petty, but I also think it's understandable. He spent nearly a decade swimming upstream against the idea that he wasn't as good as Tatum, so he's harboring some resentment at the organization, and now at Tatum himself.

It's understandable to feel wronged in a breakup. And again, while petty, I get it.

Others do not share that same sentiment. For instance, take Jimmy Toscano of the Garden Report podcast, who is frustrated to see Brown playing this out in the media when he could just have a conversation in private.

And then there's Cerrone Battle of 98.5 The Sports Hub in Boston, who is critical of Brown's online toughness, but unwillingness to speak to Tatum when the two were in person last week during the Celtics-76ers preseason game.

Those sentiments make sense too, frankly. The only real explanation was that Brown didn't become "re-engaged" until he saw these comments on Thursday, so he didn't really have a need to have an adult conversation with Tatum previously.

What is going to happen now?

I think this story is going to fester, but I don't think it's going to play out much publicly until the two teams play each other later this season.

1) Tatum is clearly set to take the high road on this topic. He's not going to give the media a pound of flesh on this moving forward. That will end the story on his end.

2) Brown will get asked about it. He'll probably answer. And I imagine he'll stay out of the comments section moving forward. He's made his point known, and I don't think he'll continue to have a one-sided conversation.

3) The two will play four times this season, and that will be a spectacle that drums everything up again.
