Tatum played an excellent all-around game in Tuesday's 125-124 win over the Brooklyn Nets.
Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum hit a game-winning buzzer-beater on Tuesday night to help the Celtics beat the Brooklyn Nets 125-124 at TD Garden.
With the win, the Celtics are now 3-1 on the young season while the loss dropped Brooklyn to 0-4. In addition to hitting the game-winner, Tatum also joined some rare team history: He joined Larry Bird as the only C's players to score 40 points in a game while dishing out eight assists and registering no turnovers.
Considering Bird is the best player in franchise history, joining him is a sign you're doing something right, and Tatum is.
Tatum, a six-time All-Star and five-time All-NBA selection, is in his 10th season out of Duke. An NBA champion in 2024, he's also been a member of the All-Rookie team (2018). He was named MVP of the All-Star Game in 2023 and the Eastern Conference Finals in 2022.
Through four games this season, he's scoring 28.0 ppg and pulling down 6.3 rebounds. He's averaging eight assists and is shooting 86.1 percent at the foul line. The only negative in his game is that he's shooting just 24.1 percent from 3-point range.
He's also fully healthy this season after tearing his Achilles at the end of the 2024-25 playoffs. The Celtics are counting on him to offset the loss of Jaylen Brown, who was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers in the offseason.

A 13-year veteran of the Celtics, he was a 12-time All-Star, a 10-time All-NBA selection, a 3-time MVP, a 3-time NBA Champion, a 3-time All-Defensive Team selection and the Rookie of the Year in 1979-80. He was twice named the MVP of the NBA Finals. He averaged 24.3 ppg for his career to go along with 10.0 rebounds. He shot 37.6 percent from 3-point range for his career and he won the NBA's 3-point contest three times. He won it in each of the first three years of the contest's existence (1986-1988). His rivalry with Los Angeles Lakers star Magic Johnson helped increase the popularity of the NBA as a whole and ushered in a generation of new fans.
Bird also helped the famous 1992 "Dream Team" win the Olympic gold medal in Barcelona, Spain.
After his playing days were over, he went into coaching, running the Indiana Pacers for three seasons (1997-00). He went 147-67 in that time and he led the Pacers to the NBA Finals in 2000.
He's also been an executive for Indiana.
Up next for the Celtics
Boston will be back in action on Friday night against the Chicago Bulls. The game will be part of the "NBA Cup," the NBA's in-season tournament.
