After defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers and Philadelphia 76ers in the first two preseason games, the Boston Celtics will test their perfect preseason record on Wednesday night as they host the Charlotte Hornets in the penultimate game of their four-game preseason schedule.
Here are three things to look for when the Celtics and Hornets tip off at TD Garden:
One last look at the rotations
Wednesday night is the final home game of the preseason slate, with the Celtics set to wrap up preseason play on Friday night in Philadelphia. If Boston head coach Joe Mazzulla follows the same game plan as the Oct. 8 preseason opener in Cleveland, it seems safe to assume none of the Celtics' starters will see action in the finale. Meaning Wednesday will be fans' last chance to see the new-look Celtics, including Paul George, Mitchell Robinson, and Jayson Tatum.
Given that this is the first season in nearly a decade without the Jaylen Brown/Tatum duo, it will be worth keeping track of who is on the floor alongside Tatum and how the team looks as the five-time All-NBA First Team player takes on a bigger role as the driving force.
Bounce-back night for Paul George?
Oct 10, 2026; Boston, Massachusetts, USA; Boston Celtics forward Paul George (13) controls the ball while Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey (0) defends during the first half at TD Garden. Bob DeChiara-Imagn ImagesThe 16-year veteran made his Celtics debut in Saturday's beatdown of the 76ers. While George appeared to fit in seamlessly with his new team, it was a rough night shooting for the 36-year-old. George went just 3-for-10 from the field and 2-for-7 from three-point range, scoring five of his 13 points at the free-throw line.
While preseason points are largely inconsequential, it would be nice to see George, a career 44 percent shooter from the field and a 38.4 percent shooter from the three-point line, find his shot ahead of Tuesday's regular-season opener.
Hugo Gonzalez breakout season on the horizon?
The Celtics brass clearly think highly of their 2025 first-round pick, as trade talks surrounding a potential deal with the Milwaukee Bucks for two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo broke down over Boston's reluctance to include Gonzalez (along with Brown, Baylor Scheierman, and draft picks).
Oct 8, 2026; Cleveland, Ohio, USA; Boston Celtics guard Hugo Gonzalez (28) shoots a three point shot during the first half of a preseason game against the Cleveland Cavaliers at Rocket Arena. David Dermer-Imagn ImagesThus far, the second-year guard has rewarded the team's faith in him, racking up 32 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists in 47 minutes across the first two preseason games.
Gonzalez's second-year leap will be a storyline to follow not only in Wednesday's matchup with the Hornets but also throughout the regular season.
Tip-off from TD Garden between the Celtics and Hornets is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
