Bradley Beal apparently has some competition for his services.

About a week ago, we heard that there was some interest in free agent guard Bradley Beal from the Boston Celtics.

Now, we hear that the Miami Heat are reportedly interested in Beal as well. This comes from Jake Fischer, and comes after we heard that the Heat are also monitoring the markets for Klay Thompson and DeMar DeRozan, who are potential trade and buyout candidates.

Here's more of what you need to know:

About Beal

A 14-year veteran of Florida, Beal has spent most of his career (11 years) with the Washington Wizards, but he also spent two years with the Phoenix Suns and one with the Clippers.

A premier scorer in his day, Beal is a three-time All-Star who also made the All-NBA team in 2020-21. He averaged 22.1 ppg in his career with the Wizards and he averaged more than 30 a game from 2019-21.

However, he's not that player anymore. First off, health has been a major issue for him over the last several years.

He played just 40 games in the 2021-22 season, 50 in the 2022-23 season, 53 in the 2023-24 season and 53 again in 2024-25. He played only six last year. He hasn't played more than 60 games since 2018-19. Last season, he had a left hip fracture.

Why would the Celtics be interested in him?

Well, as the Celtics look to replace the void left behind by Jaylen Brown, Beal would give them additional scoring options, and would serve as insurance to the newly-acquired Paul George. Neither George nor Beal can be counted on to play a full season at this point, but together they might be able to provide a solid regular season and production in the playoffs, assuming the Celtics get there.

Why would Beal be interested in Boston?

Well, despite what the NBA power rankings say, the Celtics are still a good team with a chance to win, and Beal's never really won. Furthermore, Jayson Tatum and Beal are good friends, both hailing from St. Louis, so there would be the opportunity for him to play with a longtime friend while also trying to win.

Should Boston be worried about Beal in Miami?

I feel exactly the same about the Beal rumors as I do the DeRozan and Thompson rumors: They shouldn't scare the Celtics on the surface, given that none of these players are as good as they used to be. However, if you start to aggregate talent around Bam Adebayo and Giannis Antetokounmpo, then the Heat as a whole become scarier, which just continues to make life difficult for the Celtics in a suddenly crowded Eastern Conference.
