The Red Sox have won 14 games in a row to pull right back into playoff position.
Now-former Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown is catching some strays amid the current Boston Red Sox hot streak.
The Red Sox, who had the worst record in the American League in late-June, have won 14 games in a row to get back over .500 at 51-48. They currently hold a 1.5-game lead over the Texas Rangers for the third and final wild card spot and are trying to make the playoffs for the second straight season.
Not only have the Red Sox won 14 games in a row, but they've done it against quality competition. They have swept the Los Angeles Angels, New York Mets, Chicago White Sox and Tampa Bay Rays in this time. The White Sox and Rays are both current division leaders in the AL.
So how is Brown caught in the middle of all this? Well, Sox fans are making the joke that the last time that the Red Sox lost a game, Brown was still on the Celtics. The report of Brown's trade came on July 1, which is the same day that the Red Sox last lost to the Washington Nationals.
In reality, the Celtics probably owe the Red Sox a favor, as their success has taken some of the heat off the organization because of the Brown trade.
An immensely popular player among fans, Brown spent 10 years with the Celtics, making the playoffs in each one. In addition, he helped the Celtics get to the NBA Finals twice, winning one of them (2023-24). He also won the NBA Finals MVP.
Without Jayson Tatum playing for much of the year, Brown put together a great season in 2025-26. He averaged more than 28 points per game and finished sixth in the NBA MVP voting. He was a member of the Second-Team All-NBA as well. He's a five-time All-Star in total.
The Celtics traded him to the Philadelphia 76ers for a package led by Paul George, but they also acquired two first-round draft picks in the future.

--The Celtics finished out the Las Vegas Summer League schedule on Saturday, dropping a game against the Orlando Magic. As a result, the C's went 3-2 in Summer League and will be off until the start of the preseason in October. Training camp will begin in September.
--Former Celtics head coach Doc Rivers will be enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame on Aug. 15. He'll have two Celtics at his side.
