The Celtics lost to the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday and will be back in action on Friday.

I'll be perfectly honest: I'm not much of a person for television ratings talk when it comes to sports. They genuinely don't interest me much.

I watch the games and that's usually all that matters to me. That said, some people are highly interested in them, so I bring you this story.

As noted by Richard Deitsch, the season opener between the Boston Celtics and Detroit Pistons on Tuesday was watched by 2.52 million viewers, making it the most-watched NBA weekday afternoon game in league history, excluding holidays.

And see, that's why I don't typically care about this ratings talk. NBA games are rarely ever played in the daytime on weekdays except for holidays like Christmas and Martin Luther King Jr. Day. That means that this game's actual competition is extremely light when you exclude those days, as well as New Year's Day.

Sure, it's nice that a lot of people watched it, but it doesn't have much to compare to.

All that said, it's clear that people are happy the NBA is back, and that's the best news of all.

As for the Celtics on the court...

The C's will be back in action on Friday night against the New York Knicks at TD Garden. That will be the home opener (7:00 p.m. ET) for the Celtics, who dropped that opener to Detroit 121-113.

We discussed a lot about the loss here, but the two biggest takeaways from the game are that Jayson Tatum has to be much better than the 6-of-23 that he shot from the floor, and that Mitchell Robinson, Neemias Queta and Luka Garza need to play better as a big man trio than they did. That group only had nine points and nine rebounds. Boston was out-rebounded by 10 as a unit.

About the Knicks

The Knicks are also coming off a season-opening loss, having dropped 106-100 contest with the Philadelphia 76ers. The Knicks won the NBA championship last season, defeating the San Antonio Spurs.

Robinson was a part of that Knicks team before signing a three-year deal with the Celtics in the offseason. That deal totals nearly $50 million.

The Knicks are still a formidable team with Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns, but they have a little less depth in the front court. The Celtics will try to take advantage of it and expose it to earn the first win of the season.
