The former Celtics guard hosted '741 Frequency Fest' on Sunday, officially saying his goodbye to Boston.
The next time that Boston Celtics fans see Jaylen Brown in Boston, it will be during the NBA preseason, which begins in early October.
And while that 'welcome back,' will be a special event, as will his regular season return to TD Garden, it will be hard to top what we saw on Sunday afternoon when Brown said his official goodbye to the city as part of his 741 Frequency Fest.
In front of several adoring fans, Brown was presented with the Key to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and he told the city of Boston that he loved it. It was an emotional day for one of the best athletes of the last decade of Boston sports, and for one of the biggest ambassadors for change in the city of Boston.
Brown was involved in numerous community initiatives, including his beloved 7uice Foundation, which helps bridge the multi-generational opportunity gap. Brown says he will continue to invest in the Boston community, even after his summer trade to the Philadelphia 76ers.
About Brown
The No. 3 pick in the 2016 NBA Draft out of Cal, Brown is working toward a Hall of Fame career that will no longer see its conclusion in Boston. A five-time All-Star, Brown is also a two-time All-NBA selection. He made the NBA's All-Second team last year and finished sixth in the MVP voting. He averaged 28.7 ppg while taking the Celtics to a 56-26 record and the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Ironically, the Celtics were eliminated by the 76ers in seven games in the first round.
Brown will pair with the likes of Joel Embiid, LeBron James and Tyrese Maxey to make up one of the most formidable groups in the Eastern Conference.
Brown helped the Celtics advance to the NBA Finals twice, and he helped them win the title in 2023-24. Brown was named as the MVP of that Finals.
As for the Celtics
Without Brown, the Celtics will move forward with lowered expectations. I see them as a No. 5 or No. 6 seed in the Eastern Conference in 2026-27, which means they won't even have home court advantage in the first round of a potential playoff series if I am right.
And even that projection will be tough to come by. The Eastern Conference has gotten much more balanced this offseason, with several teams in contention.
