No matter what the end resolution is, the trade situation for Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo appears on the five-yard line.

With the NBA Draft on Tuesday, the Bucks appear set to trade the two-time MVP to either the Boston Celtics or the Miami Heat, with Brian Windhorst of ESPN indicating that Jaylen Brown is firmly in play as far as the Celtics offer goes.

And at this point, my position is this: Whether or not I agree with the move, it's one that Brad Stevens now has to complete. Because how could he fail to complete it, and then look at Jaylen Brown again in 2026-27?

I don't think he could.

As far as I'm concerned, this is the end for Brown in Boston. And that's really too bad.

Drafted No. 3 overall in the 2016 NBA Draft out of Cal, Brown has blossomed into a superstar. He's a five-time All-Star, a two-time All-NBA selection and he finished sixth in the MVP voting this season averaging 28.7 ppg.

While Jayson Tatum was out most of the year with injury, Brown led the Celtics to a 56-26 season and the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference. 

He and Tatum helped lead the Celtics to the NBA title in 2023-24. Brown was the Finals MVP.

Because from where I'm sitting, this is the final straw.

Brown's been in the league a decade. He's had his name thrown about in trade rumors for most of that decade. Fans and media members have wanted to trade him for Paul George, Anthony Davis, Kawhi Leonard and Kevin Durant.

Brown has heard his name in these rumors, and he's heard people say he's not as valuable to the franchise as Tatum, but Stevens and the organization have always stuck by him.

But now, with Stevens reportedly willing to move on, how is Brown supposed to feel? The one who has always had your back is willing to move you? The one you've played for - and won for - is willing to move you? That feels like a bridge too far.

At this point, the deal simply has to get done, because if it doesn't, I don't know how everyone could co-exist moving forward.

While it's unclear if the Celtics will actually use their picks in the NBA Draft, they do enter with two selections. Boston has the No. 27 pick and the No. 40 pick. They've been connected to a wide range of players at a wide range of positions. Hugo Gonzalez was their first pick last year.
