With their regular season just two days away, it's time to make a prediction on what their record will look like at the end of the 2025-26 regular season, with most sportsbooks listing their win total at 41.5.

If you’re an absolute Celtics sicko, or you’re paid to cover the team, you witnessed a Celtics preseason where Joe Mazzulla showcased a new version of his offense that’s even faster paced and shoots even more threes than what we’ve seen in his previous three seasons as head coach.

Since day one of training camp, the faster-paced Celtics have been a topic of conversation. And over the course of four exhibition games, we saw that the chatter wasn’t just empty words:

    - Preseason Game 1, the Celtics held big leads throughout before a decisive 121-103 win in Memphis

    - Preseason Game 2, it was a 107-105 loss in Toronto after blowing a 27-point second half lead created by the starters

    - Preseason Game 3, it was a wire-to-wire domination over last year’s No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference, beating the Cavaliers 138-107 in their first preseason game at TD Garden

    - Preseason Game 4, the Celtics shot 52 threes in a game they led most of the night until starters were pulled, thus leading to yet another comeback by Toronto. This time, the Celtics held on for a 110-108 win with Xavier Tillman hitting a game-winner as time expired

Despite the obvious offensive display on the court, Mazzulla was insistent after the third preseason game that nothing has changed with his offense:

Regardless of what that madman has to say, I’m bracing myself for a fun season in 2025-26. There’s likely no Jayson Tatum, and there’s definitely no Al Horford, Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis or Luke Kornet. The starting five is going to look incredibly different, and I think that’s going to make for an interesting road ahead. And if Jaylen Brown has to miss time with tightness in his left hamstring, who the hell knows what we’re in store for. The unpredictability of what this team will be is oddly exciting for a guy like me who has only missed watching just a handful of Celtics games in my adult life. In a weird way, I was ready for this thing to be shaken up a bit.

With that said, I thought a blink test prediction for every game on the Celtics’ 2025-26 regular season schedule would be a fun exercise. But I’m giving myself a few rules:

    1. Don’t try to predict injuries, either for Boston or their opponents

    2. Don’t worry about NBA Cup stuff. I’m not pretending to understand how that all works, and I think most media members who cover the team are lying if they tell you they fully understand it (I gave them one win and one loss for the two "cup games" yet to be scheduled)

    3. Work under the assumption that Jayston Tatum is not returning at all this season, even if the guy is posting videos of himself dunking

    4. Work under the assumption that no major trades have gone down

Now that you know the rules, let’s get into it.

Does this mean I’m racing over to OddsTrader to find the best odds to hammer the over 41.5 wins on the season?

No. Absolutely not. And I wouldn’t encourage you to do so, either.

I think this season is going to be fun. But to put anything in sharpie for this team before watching them play regular season basketball is a risk I’m not willing to take.

With that said - you can bet your bottom dollar that if I nail their record on this blink test, I am 100% getting as loud as can be on the internet about it.

Boston Celtics basketball is just two sleeps away, people!
