Memphis Grizzlies guard Ty Jerome got a run at the PLYRS UNTD Performance Center in Los Angeles, and the National Basketball Players Association posted video of him playing there on its X account on Friday. The post tagged Jerome and the media outlet Swish Cultures.
The facility opened this week in Playa Vista. The $50 million complex covers 42,500 square feet and served as the LA Clippers' practice facility until they moved to Intuit Dome in 2024. Two full-size courts were built to league specifications. Houston guard Fred VanVleet, the association's president, led the decision to invest in it.
A left ankle sprain had ended Jerome's 2025-26 season early. Jerome sat out the final 11 games on the schedule, including the April 12 finale at Houston, and offseason injury notes have continued to carry the ankle designation next to his name.
The ankle was the second injury to interrupt his first year in Memphis. Jerome hurt his right calf in the first quarter of the preseason finale at Miami on Oct. 17, 2025, and the Grizzlies announced three days later that the strain was high-grade and that he would be re-evaluated in four weeks. A later team update pushed the expected return another six to nine weeks out. He did not make his Memphis debut until Jan. 31 against Minnesota at FedExForum, with Grizzlies coach Tuomas Iisalo saying beforehand that Jerome would be held to a strict minutes restriction.
Jerome scored 20 points and handed out 6 assists in 20 minutes that night, shooting 6-of-12 from the field.
In 15 appearances he averaged 19.7 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 5.7 assists. He played 22.6 minutes a night. He shot 47.4% from the field, 42.0% from 3-point range, and 87.5% from the free-throw line. Seven of those games ended with at least 20 points. He never played more than three in a row.
Memphis signed Jerome in July 2025 to a three-year deal worth $27.66 million, using the room exception to fit it. Cleveland had declined to extend him after a season in which he finished third in Sixth Man of the Year voting.
The Grizzlies won 25 games last season and finished 13th in the Western Conference. Ja Morant went to Portland on June 29 for Jerami Grant, Kris Murray, and $1 million in cash. ESPN's Shams Charania first reported the deal. Memphis took Cameron Boozer third overall in the 2026 draft, and Boozer made the All-Summer League First Team in July. Scotty Pippen Jr. had a procedure on his left big toe in March. D'Angelo Russell, acquired this offseason, is expected to be traded or bought out, according to Kelly Iko of Yahoo Sports.
Bleacher Report's Zach Buckley placed Jerome fourth on a list of the league's most underrated players on July 21.
The Los Angeles project came out of All-Star Weekend in February, when 35 players met in the city and put suggestions on sticky notes and a whiteboard. Chris Paul, Andre Iguodala, and Shaun Livingston worked on the planning. ESPN's Ben Golliver reported that association research counted roughly 200 players in the Los Angeles market during the offseason, and that more than 80 used the center in the two weeks after Summer League.
The center runs 24 hours a day, and players can bring their own trainers. Association staff holds runs twice a week through the offseason. Anthony Davis and Tyrese Maxey were among the players in the building during its first week. The association also operates a headquarters in New York and an offseason retreat in Andalucia, Spain.
A New York native, Jerome went 24th overall in the 2019 draft to Philadelphia, and his rights were traded to Phoenix. He has also played for Oklahoma City, Golden State, and Cleveland. He turned 29 on July 8 and carries career regular-season averages of 9.3 points.
Jerome will make $9,220,050 next season. His contract includes a player option worth $9,659,100 for the 2027-28 season.
