One NBA scout would be stunned to see Ty Jerome spend the entire 2026-27 season on the Memphis Grizzlies.
Grizzlies Roundtable spoke to an NBA scout who expects the Memphis Grizzlies to trade Ty Jerome before the 2027 trade deadline.
The Grizzlies are in rebuild mode and Jerome is better suited to play for a playoff team at this stage of his career.
Jerome signed with the Grizzlies last summer. He didn't make his Memphis debut until January, but once he got on the court, he showed why the Grizzlies were excited about getting him.
Jerome averaged 19.7 points, 2.8 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game last season while shooting 47.4% from the field, 42.0% from beyond the arc and 87.5% from the free-throw line. He scored at least 20 points seven times.
A New York native, Jerome has played for the Phoenix Suns, Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers and Grizzlies. He enters next season with career averages of 9.3 points per game in the regular season and 11.7 points per game in the playoffs.
It was a summer for the Grizzlies. The front office traded Ja Morant to the Portland Trail Blazers for Jerami Grant and Kris Murray and Santi Aldama to the Dallas Mavericks, acquired Isaiah Stewart from the Detroit Pistons and drafted former Duke star Cameron Boozer with the third overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.
In the post-Morant era, the Grizzlies will be led by Boozer, Zach Edey, Cedric Coward, GG Jackson and Karim López.
Again, it's unknown if Jerome will stick around. If he does, he will be a core piece.
Jerome will make $9,220,050 next season. He has a player option worth $9,659,100 for the 2027-28 season.
Jerome was named the fourth-most underrated player in the NBA by Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report.
Jerome only played in 15 games last season because of injuries, but he showcased his talent so well that Buckley believes the veteran has become underrated in basketball conversations.
"He looks like, at the very least, a skilled and efficient offensive player who can lean on his instincts and awareness to help combat his physical limitations on defense," Buckley wrote. "Yet, he may not be held in even that high of a regard after missing so many games on a bad Memphis team."
