Quinten Post scored 9 third-quarter points as Memphis’ bench helped the Grizzlies beat Utah 110-105 and improve to 4-0.
Quinten Post checked in with 4:41 left in the third quarter Monday night and the Memphis Grizzlies ahead 74-66 at Delta Center.
Over the rest of the period, he went 4-of-4 from the field and scored 9 points. Memphis outscored the Utah Jazz 15-10 in that stretch and carried an 89-76 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Grizzlies won 110-105 and are 4-0.
Post started the run with a cutting dunk off a Cedric Coward pass at 4:29. He followed with an 8-foot hook at 3:22 and a 25-foot 3-pointer off a Cam Spencer pass at 2:34.
At 2:02, Spencer hit a 3 off a Post pass. Post's alley-oop layup from Ty Jerome with 13.8 seconds left closed the quarter.
He finished with 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting, including 2-of-3 from 3-point range, in 12:03. He did not play in the fourth.
Post had 7 points on 3-of-4 shooting in the Oct. 21 opener against Utah. In his return to Chase Center on Friday, he had 2 points and 2 blocks in 19:48, and he scored 7 at Sacramento on Sunday.
Memphis beat Golden State by three points and Utah by five. Jerome said the Grizzlies have been in dogfights and clutch-time games.
"That's who we know that we are," Jerome said in a postgame interview with Grind City Media, the Grizzlies' in-house outlet. "Each game has been a little different. Tonight we had everyone step up. Shout out to them. Quinten Post finally had a great game, and he was big for us tonight."
"Everyone down the line was huge for us tonight," Jerome continued. "That's who we are. We're a deep team. We've been saying that all year. And we're going to try to show something."
Memphis' Second Unit Scores 48
Memphis reserves outscored Utah's 48-40. They had 15 of the Grizzlies' 30 points in the first quarter, 14 of 28 in the second, and 16 of 31 in the third.
Jerami Grant led the bench with 13 points on 4-of-6 shooting and was a team-high plus-12. Spencer had 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists, and Scotty Pippen Jr. scored 7.
GG Jackson II and Isaiah Stewart scored 4 apiece. For Utah, Mo Bamba had 14 off the bench and Brice Sensabaugh had 11.
Post said the Grizzlies are probably the hardest-practicing team in the league and that their coach puts them through tight situations in practice.
"Up until now, our second unit has been this pace-and-play style with a lot of shooting," Post said in a separate Grind City Media interview.
"Obviously, we have Cam, who is one of the best shooters in the league, and then Jerami, GG, me, and Pip to really push the pace," Post continued. "And we found some success in that third quarter especially, just running hard, finding shooters, and that's kind of the energy that we got to bring on that bench."
Spencer went 3-of-5 from the field and 2-of-3 from 3-point range. Eight of the Grizzlies' 16 3-pointers came from the bench.
Post Fits What Memphis Wants From Its Bench
Memphis signed Post to a three-year, $30 million offer sheet on July 6. Golden State declined to match it a day later, and Post signed with the Grizzlies on July 8.
The Warriors drafted him 52nd overall out of Boston College in 2024. Last season, he averaged 7.7 points and 4.0 rebounds in 67 games for Golden State and made 33.6% of his 3-point attempts.
Grizzlies coach Tuomas Iisalo said he believes Memphis is the fourth-youngest team in the league, and he has explained what makes the bench difficult to guard.
"I personally don't consider it a luxury," Iisalo said. "I consider it a necessity in this schedule. We have an 82-game schedule. We've got to find, on a nightly basis, got to find those guys who are able to bring the [juice] and at the same time bring the necessary focus and be in that attack mode from the first moment on."
"And I think we definitely have that type of team, and I think we made a huge run in the first half building that lead, especially with our bench guys, and that's great to see," Iisalo continued.
Memphis plays at Portland on Thursday at 9 p.m. CT. Golden State visits FedExForum on Nov. 19.
