Risacher landed with the Dallas Mavericks as part of a three-team deal bringing defensive wing Lu Dort to the Hawks. Several other pieces were also involved.
Risacher, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, never really lived up to expectations with the Hawks, but he was still reportedly well-liked in Atlanta and seen as a hard worker.
"He was well-liked in Atlanta and considered a hard worker, although the soft whispers from NBA scouts that attached to him as a draft prospect never fully went away," wrote John Hollinger of The Athletic.
With the Hawks, Risacher had to deal with the pressure of being a top overall pick despite never really being seen as a consensus No. 1 draft prospect. While he was a serviceable player during his two seasons in Atlanta, he evidently didn't show enough for the team to want to continue the experiment.
He got off to a solid start in the NBA, finishing second in the Rookie of the Year race and taking home All-Rookie honors in the 2024-25 campaign. He averaged 12.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game as a rookie while shooting 45.8 percent from the field and 35.5 percent from 3.
But his role diminished as his second season went on, which culminated with him falling out of the starting lineup and eventually the playoff rotation. He averaged 9.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game as a sophomore while shooting 45.5 percent from the field and 36.8 percent from deep.
A wing with 3-and-D potential, Risacher has shown some solid tools at the NBA level, but he hasn't produced like a typical top pick, and his regression in his second season was probably the nail in the coffin for his Hawks tenure.
That doesn't mean his journey is over, however. He is still just 21 years old, and being well-liked and hard-working should go a long way for him wherever his NBA career takes him. He may be able to reach new heights with Dallas, especially if his role allows him to spread his wings a bit.
Ex-Hawks star Trae Young seems to think the exit from Atlanta is a good thing for Risacher, with Young saying the Spain native is "free" following the deal.
For Atlanta, the team can move forward with its young cast, and Dort, an NBA champion with an All-Defense nod under his belt, should be able to help the cause. The Hawks also landed rising sophomore Ryan Nembhard as part of the trade, who could also grow into an important piece.
