The Miami Heat are coming off an exciting victory over the Philadelphia 76ers, with a final score of 127-117. They got great production from both bigs Bam Adebayo and Kel'el Ware, who combined for 38 points and 29 rebounds. The team's offense is one of the best in the league, while still living up to the organization's defensive values. However, reinforcements are on the way.
It's been reported that All-Star guard Tyler Herro is set to make his season debut, barring any setbacks, on Monday night, against the Dallas Mavericks.
The 25-year-old underwent left ankle surgery in late September, which kept him sidelined. He was dealing with discomfort throughout the offseason, originally suffering the injury in an offseason workout. The Heat and Herro hoped to take care of the matter through other medical treatments, with hopes of avoiding surgery. However, they later decided to undergo the procedure.
The former lottery pick was coming off an All-Star and career season, averaging 23.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 5.5 assists while shooting 47.2 percent from the field, 37.5 percent from three-point range in 77 appearances.
However, the team Herro is returning to is drastically different than ever before. The Heat is the fastest-paced and highest-scoring team in the league. Something that's never been done throughout his tenure.
It's exciting news, but soon the biggest question will be answered: How does Herro fit?
Norman Powell is on an All-Star trajectory, averaging 25.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.3 steals while shooting 50 percent from the field, 46.4 percent from three-point range.
Ware is having the best stretch of his career, averaging 15.3 points, 14.7 rebounds, 1.3 blocks, and 1.1 steals while shooting 56.6 percent from the field, 45.5 percent from three-point range in the last seven games. He's been productive regardless of his role, coming off the bench or starting.
Herro is a clear starter for the Heat, so slides out of the starting lineup?
Davion Mitchell, who has started every game thus far this season, is likely to move towards a reserve position. Herro proved to have the ability to be a combo guard last season, improving as a scorer, but also facilitating.
However, there are no worries about the fit from within.
"I think I'm going to be myself, play how I play last season, the year before that, the year before that, and the year before that," Herro said. "I know how to play fast; I've played fast my entire life until I came to Miami. I adjusted to play with other players. I know how to play in this offense. That's the beauty of me, I can play in any offense."
It will be interesting to evaluate how the Heat and Herro adjust to one another, but it should be a big boost offensively.
